Beth Handley

Beth Handley specialises in civil claims against the police and the Ministry of Justice, with more than eight years experience in this field.  She also represents bereaved families at inquests into deaths in custody. She is expert in representing protesters seeking to uphold their democratic rights, including challenging police wrongdoing, such as wrongful arrests and use of force, and policing decisions which have led to the wrongful curtailment of civil liberties.

Beth has acted for numerous individuals defending attempts by private companies to injunct protest activity.  While at Moss & Co Solicitors she acted for a number of defendants who were successful in defeating an injunction action brought by armaments components manufacturer Edo Mbm in Brighton.  She has also successfully represented animal rights protesters in injunction claims brought by Harrods and Oxford University.

Beth studied law in Australia before relocating to London in 1999 where she worked in the personal injury department at Irwin Mitchell prior to admission in the UK as a solicitor.  She joined Bhatt Murphy Solicitors in 2002 and on qualification in 2004 she moved to Moss & Co Solicitors  Beth joined Hickman and Rose in 2007.

Outside of work, Beth is involved in a variety of social justice and anti-war campaigns. She is deeply concerned about the increasing curtailment of civil liberties and criminalisation of protest activity. She regularly exercises her protest rights.
