Helen Stone

Helen Stone is a new addition to the firm, specialising in human rights law and actions against the police.  Her work includes judicial review claims, public inquiries and inquests, as well as police complaints.  She is a solicitor-advocate with rights of audience in the higher courts.

Helen also plays a significant part in preparing major litigation undertaken by the firm, She is currently working with the team representing Gary Reynolds in a civil claim against Sussex Police and Reliance Security Group. Mr Reynolds suffered permanent brain injury and partial paralysis following arrest and detention in March 2008. She also works with Daniel Machover on behalf of Susan Alexander, the mother of Azelle Rodney who was shot dead in April 2005 by the Metropolitan Police.

She recently worked as part of the team preparing the Supreme Court challenge on the Justice Secretary’s definition of “miscarriage of justice”, which has widened the scope of the term.   She assists Daniel Machover and Kate Maynard on a series of  universal criminal jurisdiction actions,  bringing suspects of war crimes and serious human rights violations to justice in the UK and abroad.

Helen joined Hickman and Rose in December 2010.  Prior to this, she worked at Matthew Gold and Company, Solicitors, and on secondment during her training contract in the Commercial Legal Department of the Legal Services Commission.

Helen has a Masters degree in Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham, where her studies included international human rights law, international criminal law, and international humanitarian law.
