Jane HickmanJane Hickman is a founding partner of Hickman and Rose. Legal 500 has described her as "one of the best criminal lawyers in London". This year (2010) Chambers praises her as an "outstanding solicitor with unparalleled intelligence, commitment and capacity for hard work". Jane trained as an employment lawyer but now has vast experience in running complex and difficult criminal cases. She specialises in criminal appeals and has won many “fresh evidence” cases in the Court of Appeal including R-v-Ibrahim, R-v-Patel and R-v-Causley. Her recent successes include CPS v Payne, the successful defence of a police officer facing serious harassment charges, CPS v Lloyd, the successful defence of an IT manager charged with assault, and R-v-Sofroniou, the successful fresh evidence appeal of a defendant convicted of rape charges. She has won several referrals back to the Court of Appeal from the CCRC in recent years. Jane is Secretary of the Criminal Appeal Lawyers Association which works to develop and improve the procedures available to people who have suffered miscarriages of justice. She lectures and writes on Human Rights issues, including in recent years for Liberty and Justice. She has lectured on legal aid policy and management issues for the Legal Action Group.
