James Gwatkin

James joined Hickman & Rose in July 2017, where he currently assists Jenny Wiltshire, Aileen Colhoun and Peter Csemiczky in the criminal defence department.

James obtained a BA (hons) in History and Politics from the University of Warwick in 2015, before studying the GDL at the University of Sheffield in 2016.  He is currently awaiting his BPTC results from the University of Law.  During his studies he was awarded an Exhibition Award from Inner Temple to fund his GDL and BPTC studies, as well as the Irwin Mitchell Award from the University of Sheffield for obtaining the highest overall marks on the GDL in his year group.

Prior to joining Hickman & Rose, James volunteered as an Education Advocate for the Communities Empowerment Network (CEN) which involved representing parents and excluded children through written/oral appeals challenging permanent exclusions at schools across the country.  James is also a Vocalise Mentor where he teaches debating and public speaking in prisons across London.
