Andrew Katzen in Law Society Gazette on rise in SRA sexual misconduct investigations
23 Jun 2025
Head of Regulatory Law Andrew Katzen has been quoted in the Law Society Gazette on the sharp rise in SRA investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct by lawyers.
The article, which draws on SRA data, reveals how the regulator received more complaints of sexual misconduct by solicitors over 2023 and 2024 than it did over the previous four years combined.
A large proportion of these cases were closed with no further action, the Law Society Gazette reveals, something it reports as being partly due to “complainants [not wanting] to go through the process.“
Andrew Katzen tells the LSG: “These cases are rarely simple. They can last a long time; require careful consideration; and can be emotionally draining for all parties. The fact that a large proportion of these cases are being closed by the SRA with no further action illustrates the complexity of the issues involved.”
