Today, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) announced that five police officers have been notified that their conduct is now under criminal investigation as part of its inquiry into events prior to Duncan Tomlin’s death. The IPCC’s press release can be found here.
Paul Tomlin, the father of Duncan Tomlin, responded as follows:
“The family welcome the fact that the five officers who were originally served with gross misconduct notices in connection with the investigation into Duncan’s death have now been served with notices informing them their actions are also under criminal investigation. We call on Sussex Police to now review the status of the officers and determine that it is in the public interest for them to be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. It is almost five months since Duncan died and our family are still devastated and unable to come to terms with the loss of Duncan. We need answers to the events surrounding his death. We hope this development will assist with achieving that. We continue to expect the IPCC to conduct its investigation in a timely and robust manner, ensuring that the resources required to achieve this are available and deployed in order to provide us with those answers.”
The family and their solicitor will not be making any further comment at this time.
