Hickman & Rose is top-ranked firm across all major legal directories

Hickman & Rose’s status as one of the country’s leading law firms has been confirmed in the latest edition of the Chambers & Partners legal directory.

The firm’s Business Crime, Serious and General Crime, and Civil Litigation departments have all been ranked Band 1 in Chambers’ 2026 guide.

The accolade means all three of Hickman & Rose’s core departments have been judged to be operating at the highest possible level by Chambers, Legal 500 and the Chambers HNW guides.

Co-led by the ‘fantastic’ and ‘charismatic’ Ben Rose and the ‘exceptional […] class actRoss Dixon – ranked Band 1 – Hickman & Rose’s Business Crime team is promoted to Band 1 in the category of Financial Crime: Individuals.

Described as a ‘pre-eminent boutique firm’ in this space, Hickman & Rose’s Business Crime team – which also contains the ‘first rateAndrew Katzen – is made up of ‘astute, bright and strategically savvy white-collar crime lawyers’, the guide states.

The firm’s Serious and General Crime department, led by Jenny Wiltshire – ‘the queen of the criminal law field’ and Star Individual – is yet again ranked in Band 1 in the Crime category.

There aren’t enough superlatives to do this firm justice. Each and every solicitor is at the top of their game’, the Chambers guide states.

Peter Csemiczky is this year promoted to Band 1. His opponents are warned that while ‘utterly charming it would be a mistake to underestimate him’.

Client friendly’ Ben Rose maintains his Band 2 status, as does new partner Kate Goold, who is described as ‘the complete package’. In the same market-leading team, the ‘unflappable’ and ‘fabulous’ Rose Commander is newly ranked as an Up and Coming partner, while the ‘formidably brightBartholomew Dalton is promoted to Star Associate .

Hickman & Rose’s Civil Litigation department is again ranked in Band 1 in two key areas: Inquests and Police Law: Mainly Claimant.

The ‘exceptional’ Daniel Machover is a Star Individual for his inquest work and is described as having ‘an unrivalled reputation for inquests’.

Both Kate Maynard and Helen Stone are Band 1 for inquests with Helen described as ‘a standout professional’ and ‘one of the brightest lawyers around’. The ‘incredibleEllie Cornish this year joins the ‘excellentToby Wilton as an Associate to Watch in this category.

In Police Law: Mainly Claimant, Stefano Ruis – a Star Individual – is described as ‘tactically brilliant, meticulous and quietly formidable’.

In the same category, Daniel Machover and Kate Maynard are Band 1 lawyers, Helen Stone retains her Band 3 ranking and Ellie Cornish is again newly ranked this year as an Associate to Watch.

Outside these four Band 1 specialisms, Hickman & Rose’s departments and lawyers achieved high rankings and promotions across other many other areas of law.

The firm’s extradition practice, led by the ‘stellar’, ‘exceptional’ – and Band 1 ranked – Kate Goold is this year newly ranked in Band 4.

In the Administrative and Public Law category, department head Daniel Machover is promoted to Band 1, with Stefano Ruis also ranked.

In Civil Liberties and Human Rights, a total of six solicitors are ranked, including Daniel Machover in Band 1, with Toby Wilton this year joining Ellie Cornish as a Star Associate.

In Proceeds of Crime the firm is ranked Band 2; and in Professional Discipline, Band 4.
