Jenny Wiltshire and Peter Csemiczky act for acquitted footballer Benjamin Mendy
13 Jan 2023
Hickman & Rose partners Jenny Wiltshire and Peter Csemiczky represent Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy, who has been on trial at Chester Crown Court since August last year.
Mr Mendy has been unanimously acquitted of eight of the criminal charges he faced – seven of rape and one of sexual assault – following a police investigation that started in 2020. The jury failed to reach verdict on two charges on which Mr Mendy will face a retrial later this year.
Mr Mendy was represented in court by barristers Eleanor Laws KC and Orla Daly, both of QEB Hollis Whiteman chambers.
Speaking after the acquittals were reported, Hickman & Rose’s Head of Serious and General Crime Jenny Wiltshire said:
“My client Benjamin Mendy would like to thank the members of the jury for their dedication and commitment.
“He also thanks everyone who supported him, and particularly the witnesses who gave evidence on his behalf in the glare of such intense publicity.
“Mr Mendy is delighted that he has been unanimously acquitted of eight of the 10 charges he faced.
“He looks forward to clearing his name in relation to the other two charges so he can start rebuilding his life.”
