Jenny Wiltshire argues for standard university sexual misconduct policy in Times

Head of Serious and General Crime has written an article for the Times newspaper in which she argues that Britain’s universities need to update and standardise the way they deal with allegations of sexual misconduct.
Jenny identifies a number of serious problems with university policies, some of which deal with an allegation of sexual assault in the same way as one of stealing a library book.
“Some [university policies] make no provision for the appointment of an experienced, independent investigator”, Jenny writes. “There is often no right to legal representation. There is scant regard to due process and natural justice”.
Jenny goes on: “It is time universities rise to the challenge of the MeToo era and institute rigorous, progressive disciplinary procedures that respect the rights of all involved”
