Hickman & Rose’s Head of Serious and General Crime Jenny Wiltshire has appeared on the Justice Gap’s Un:Just podcast to discuss the quashed conviction of her clients Winston Trew and Stephen Simmons.
Winston Trew is one of the so-called “Oval Four”: four young black men who were convicted in the 1970s of ‘muggings’ based on the evidence of a false evidence provided by a corrupt police officer. Stephen Simmons was convicted of mailbag theft based on false evidence from the same officer.
Jenny, who represented Winston and Stephen in separate Appeal Court matters, tells the podcast: “It’s absolutely shocking. It’s not just the case of a corrupt officer…it’s the system itself.”
