Civil litigation partner Kate Maynard has hailed as a “landmark” the conviction of police officer PC Monk for the manslaughter of footballer Dalian Atkinson, whose family she represents.
PC Monk was found guilty of killing Mr Atkinson by Tasering him for six times longer than is standard and then kicking him in the head.
His conviction is the first time any police officer has been found guilty of either murder or manslaughter for 35 years.
Afterwards, Kate described the verdict as “the first manslaughter conviction in the modern era of a police officer for using excessive force in the course of duty.”
She went on: “This is a landmark conviction. I hope it is a watershed moment for accountability of police officers in this country.”
