Civil litigation partner Kate Maynard has been quoted in a Guardian report into the Fishmongers’ Hall tragedy in which Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones were killed.
Kate explains why Jack’s family – which she represents – has been forced to protect its legal position by issuing proceedings against the UK Government.
She describes as ‘unfathomable’ the Home Office’s decision not to allow a year’s delay to the period of limitation before a civil claim must be laid and explains that this has left the family with ‘no alternative’ but to issue proceedings.
