Peter Csemiczky comments on why the CPS’s rape prosecution and conviction rate has fallen
12 Sep 2019
Serious and General Crime partner Peter Csemiczky has been quoted in the media in relation to news that the CPS rates of rape prosecution and conviction have dropped.
According to new data, rape charges, prosecutions and convictions in England and Wales have fallen to their lowest levels in more than a decade.
Peter, who specialises in this area of law, told The Guardian and other newspapers that as well as being down to underfunding, this was also due to changes in the law on the use of police bail which have resulted in complainants and suspects waiting longer before a charging decision is made.
