Anna Jemmison is an experienced criminal defence solicitor who works tirelessly to achieve the best outcome for her clients. She offers specialist legal advice at each stage of a criminal allegation from investigation through to trial.
Anna acts for individuals accused of sexual offences including allegations of rape and sexual assault, violent crime, drug possession and supply, robbery, dishonesty offences, driving matters, weapons offences, harassment, and allegations of controlling and coercive behaviour.
Anna understands that being accused of a crime is distressing and daunting and impacts every aspects of a person’s life. Anna’s empathetic approach ensures she brings her clients along with her to ensure she achieves the best result possible, no matter what the severity of the allegation.
Anna holds an LLB (Hons) in Law and an LLM in International Human Rights Law. Prior to joining Hickman & Rose, Anna worked at a top legal 500 criminal defence firm in central London for a number of years.
Anna is a committee member of the London Criminal Courts Solicitors Association (LCCSA) and a subcommittee member of Women in Criminal Law (WICL). She is also a member of the Youth Practitioners Association.
Anna has a depth of experience assisting young people who have been accused of a criminal offence. She represents young people at the police station, Youth Court, Crown Court, and Court of Appeal.
Anna believes in the need to divert young people away from the criminal justice system where possible. She understand the devastating impact of a conviction for young people, and has successfully persuaded the police or prosecution to end investigations without any sanction or by an out of court disposal.
Anna has acted for a lot of young people who have been diagnosed with, or suspected of having a cognitive vulnerability, a mental health vulnerability or special educational needs. She regularly works with psychiatrists, psychologists, intermediaries, and speech and language professionals to ensure she is able to accommodate the often complex needs of her young client.
Whilst the young person is first and foremost at the heart of every case, Anna appreciates that for the family of the person accused, it is an especially upsetting time. Extending support to the client’s family is key to Anna’s approach.
Anna regularly advises individuals at the police station and court who have been accused of a sexual offence. Anna has experience representing clients facing allegations of rape, sexual assault, possession of indecent images, voyeurism, and exposure.
Anna appreciates the stigma and wider implications attached to being accused of a sexual offence and acts with discretion, decisiveness and empathy to try to minimise the impact of her clients’ lives.
Anna has significant experience advising individuals accused of domestic and non-domestic assaults, and other violent offences.
Anna has particular experience managing cases where a complainant has indicated that they no longer wish to support a prosecution, but the authorities seek to pursue the allegation against the client regardless.
Anna has a wealth of experience representing individuals who have been found in possession of drugs or have been accused of drug supply.
Over the years, Anna has built up a network of expert professionals who she works with to forensically consider the issues that often present themselves in these cases including technical experts, drug valuation experts, and experts in modern day slavery and human trafficking (where there might issues of coercion, exploitation, forced labour etc).
