Members of Sir David Amess’ family have spoken out to call for a full public inquest into the MP’s killing in October 2021.
David Amess’ daughter Katie gave an interview to The Sunday Times in which she explained why the family seek a full inquest into her father’s death.
Katie Amess, who said she also speaks on behalf of her mother, said her father’s killer, Ali Harbi Ali, had been reported to the Government’s anti-terror programme Prevent in 2014, but that after one meeting his case was not followed up “due to an admin error”.
She said that a full inquest would make public the internal and confidential report into Prevent’s role in Ali’s radicalisation.
“We have never had a full public examination into the events leading up to his death“, Katie said. “My hope was, through this full public inquest, everybody would be given the knowledge of how this happened, and [that would] prevent it happening again. And right now it feels like we are waiting for the next one to happen.”
David Amess’ family is represented by Daniel Machover and Katherine Sorab, instructing Matrix Chambers’ Jesse Nicholls and Rosalind Comyn.
