Challenges, Claims & Compensation
We have a formidable track record in asserting the rights of individuals against the state.
Our clients include protesters, prisoners, journalists, business people, and victims of crime. All have seen their rights infringed by various detaining and prosecuting bodies. These include many police forces of England and Wales, the Prison Service, the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Revenue & Customs and Immigration Detention Centres. They also include police and military officers in a wide array of other nations.
Our mission is to ensure that state power, in its many forms, is used only in compliance with the rule of law and that those who operate outside the law are held to account for their breaches.
We have secured injunctions, declarations and favourable settlements for a vast range of clients. For those whose relatives have died in custody or following contact with the police we seek answers and accountability. We also deal with complex cases where the police are not fulfilling their positive obligations to protect victims of crime and to investigate and prosecute the offenders. Internationally this work involves the search for justice for victims of torture and other human rights abuses abroad.
We aim to hold the regulatory agencies to account, including the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority. We are one of very few firms still specialising in applications under the Miscarriages of Justice scheme.
