1 Oct 2025

Hickman & Rose is delighted to announce that two more of its departments have been elevated to the leading Tier 1 category in the latest edition of the Legal 500 directory.

The Business Crime and Civil Litigation departments join Serious and General Crime in being recognised as operating at the highest level nationally.

Co-led by the ‘simply brilliant’ Ross Dixon, and the ‘expert in bribery, fraud and corruption’ Ben Rose (both of whom are Hall of Fame lawyers), Business Crime is promoted to Tier 1 for its work in the category of fraud: white collar crime (advice to individuals).

The department, which also includes Leading Partner Andrew Katzen; Next Generation Partners Emily Sheils and Christopher Houssemayne du Boulay; and Key Lawyer Claire Wallace, wins praise for ‘its strong reputation for forensic analysis, the team excels in handling matters with overlapping regulatory, disciplinary and criminal issues’.

As one respondent tells the guide: ‘They have a stable of superb lawyers who have been in all the big cases [and are] as close to perfection as a bunch of white-collar lawyers can be’.

The firm’s Regulatory Law team meanwhile rises up the ranks in the category of financial services: contentious regulation, where it, as led by the ‘smart and tactically astute’ Andrew Katzen and including newly ranked Next Generation Partner Claire Wallace (who is described as ‘unfazed by any challenge’), is now in Tier 4.

At the same time, Hickman & Rose’s Civil Litigation team is this year promoted to Tier 1 for its work in civil liberties and human rights law.

‘Hugely impressive’ department head Daniel Machover and ‘leading inquest law expert’ Kate Maynard are both Leading Partners; with Helen Stone a Next Generation Partner, and the ‘superb’ Stefano Ruis and ‘star of the future’ Toby Wilton both Key Lawyers. Ellie Cornish is praised for her work on police discrimination cases and is elevated this year to Leading Associate.

As one respondent tells the guide: ‘The hallmarks of the team are exceptional dedication to their clients and first-class subject-matter expertise in the areas they work in’.

The two newly top-ranked teams join the Serious and General Crime department, which is once again included in Tier 1 for its work in the category of crime: general.

Department head Jenny Wiltshire is praised as an ‘absolute pro’. Peter Csemiczky is ‘brilliant’; and Rose Commander is ‘impressive’.

Kate Goold’s return to the firm in 2025 means the Serious and General Crime department now uniquely boasts two Hall of Fame lawyers in Ben Rose and Jenny Wiltshire; and two Leading Partners in Peter Csemiczky and Kate Goold.
