Hickman & Rose’s Tom Bushnell has been quoted in Law360’s round up of the top FCA enforcement cases of 2024.
Tom commented on the FCA’s fining of both Starling Bank and Metro Bank for financial control failures: two cases which Tom has written about and commented on previously.
While these regulatory cases have been described by some legal commentators as related, Tom told Law360 that, aside from the fact that both banks have “challenger” status, they are actually quite distinct.
The Metro Bank matter in particular, Tom said, may be described as “run-of-the-mill” as “the anti-money laundering… failings that the FCA identified were exactly the sort that many of the most traditional High Street banks have been fined for in recent years.”
