Tom Bushnell named Times’ Lawyer of the Week for LIBOR / EURIBOR appeal success

15 Oct 2026

Tom Bushnell has been named The Times newspaper’s Lawyer of the Week for his work on the LIBOR / EURIBOR appeals which saw four Hickman & Rose clients’ convictions overturned.

Together with Ben Rose and Nisha Patel, Tom represented the former City traders Jay Merchant, Jonathan Mathew, Philippe Moryoussef and Christian Bittar at the Court of Appeal.

The successful appeals against conviction came after the same Hickman & Rose team last year won the appeal of Carlo Palombo at the Supreme Court, paving the way for the overturning of other LIBOR/EURIBOR related convictions.

As well as briefly discussing these cases, and his journey in law, Tom used his Lawyer of the Week profile to praise the work of the Fountain Court barrister Katherine Hardcastle, with whom he has worked closely on all the firm’s LIBOR/EURIBOR appeals.

Katherine, together with Matrix Chambers’ Tim James-Matthews, represented Jay Merchant, Jon Mathew and Philippe Moryoussef at the Court of Appeal. Led by Adrian Darbishire KC and with Tom Doble of QEB Hollis Whiteman, she also represented Christian Bittar.

Tom’s full Lawyer of the Week profile is available to Times subscribers here.
