Hickman & Rose’s head of regulatory law Andrew Katzen has contributed to a Law Society Gazette feature on the future of SRA prosecutions at the SDT.
Among the issues addressed in journalist Catherine Baksi’s article is how the SRA’s recently increased fining powers will impact prosecutions at the tribunal.
Andrew is quoted saying he thinks the regulator will ‘make swift and common use of its enhanced fining powers so that it deals with many more cases internally’
While ‘no solicitor or law firm wishes to appear before the tribunal’, Andrew says, the SRA’s greater use of these discretionary powers could result concerns about the regulator ‘marking its own homework’.
