Family of Oladeji Omishore call for conduct investigation into police involved in his death

23 Aug 2022

The family of Oladeji Omishore, who died after contact with police on Chelsea Bridge, have spoken out to dispute the status of the IOPC investigation into his death.

Talking to the Guardian and Channel 4 News, the bereaved Omishore family – represented by Hickman & Rose partner Kate Maynard – said is was “incomprehensible” that “the officers [involved] are not yet being investigated for any professional misconduct or criminal charges.”

Kate Maynard said the officers’ failure to diligently exercise their responsibilities and the excessive use of force “are obvious potential disciplinary infringements for investigation”

She went on to say that the IOPC’s failure to interview these officers as subjects of an investigation (and to properly test their evidence) “risks becoming a material flaw in the investigation.”
