Civi Litigation partner Kate Maynard has appeared on a Channel 4 Dispatches documentary entitled “Are we losing the war on terror?” which analyses the Prevent anti-radicalisation strategy.
Kate spoke about the case of Jack Merritt, who was killed by convicted terrorist Usman Khan in the Fishmongers’ Hall tragedy, and whose bereaved family she represented at inquest.
She told how Prevent police officers assigned to oversee Khan at the Fishmongers’ event were insufficiently experienced and resourced, and did not have a proper understanding of their role.
It was “horrific”, Kate said, that evidence Khan has become more – not less – radical in prison “weren’t used at the forefront of the management of Khan in the community.”
