Police officers in Oladeji Omishore death case investigated by IOPC

7 Jun 2023

A year on from the death of Oladeji Omishore, it has been revealed that two police officers involved in the case are being investigated by the IOPC for potentially failing to co-operate with its investigation.

Oladeji died on 4th June 2022 after being Tasered by a police officer on Chelsea Bridge in London. He was unarmed. It seems clear that he was experiencing a mental health crisis.

Represented by Kate Maynard and Toby Wilton, the Omishore family is challenging the IOPC decision not to hold a criminal or misconduct investigation into Oladeji’s death. As part of this the family has established that two officers are being investigated over an apparent lack of willingness to assist the IOPC inquiry.

Kate said: “The IOPC have repeatedly failed to command the confidence and respect of this family due to fundamental flaws in the IOPC’s approach to this investigation, and a lack of critical curiosity about what happened on Chelsea Bridge that day – and its relationship to systemic issues within the Met and wider policing.”
