Hickman & Rose recognised as leading law firm in Chambers 2024 legal directory

Hickman & Rose continues to be recognised as one of the UK’s leading law firms in the latest edition of the Chambers & Partners legal directory.

The Serious & General Crime and Police Law teams retain their top Band 1 rankings in the 2024 guide, while the firm’s work in Inquest Law – a new category in the guide – is also ranked Band 1. 

This year Daniel Machover joins Stefano Ruis as a Star Individual, and Kate Maynard joins Jenny Wiltshire, Ross Dixon and Daniel Machover as a leading Band 1 individual.

There has been broad uplift in personal rankings, and a new departmental ranking for Professional Discipline which reflects the firm’s growing reputation in this area.

Hickman & Rose’s ‘powerhouse’ and ‘extremely capable’ Inquest Law and Police Law teams come in for special praise in the latest guide.

King of inquests’ Daniel Machover is described as ‘one of the most intelligent and cerebral solicitors out there’ and ‘probably the most knowledgeable person in the country about inquest law’. Kate Maynard is ‘a leading light in the area of inquests’ who ‘deliver[s] exceptional outcomes for her clients.’ Stefano Ruis is ‘a real star’ and  absolutely top class. He is caring, thoughtful and meticulous. He has incredibly sound judgement.’ Helen Stone – newly ranked as a Band 2 individual in inquest law – is ‘extremely good’ and ‘extremely determined’.

Jenny Wiltshire, head of the ‘highly acclaimed’ Serious & General Crime department, is ‘exceptional’ with ‘simply fantastic judgment’. Peter Csemiczky is ‘a formidable solicitor, a great tactician and someone you can trust 100% to do a case thoroughly and well’. Ben Rose is ‘a go-to person for big cases’; and Aileen Colhoun’s ‘legal knowledge is phenomenal, and she has great judgement.’

The firm’s Financial Crime team is comprised of ‘extraordinary, learned lawyers who are totally immersed in the cases that they deal with’.  They ‘get the best results’.

Commended for his work in both Financial Crime and in POCA & Asset Forfeiture, Ross Dixon is ‘really impressive’ and ‘extremely able, highly intelligent’. He ‘is in all the big cases and he always wins’. The ‘superb’ Ben Rose is ‘a force of nature […] bright, creative and someone who’s ready to manoeuvre and fight your corner.’ Andrew Katzen is ‘a fantastic lawyer – exceptionally bright, pragmatic and commercial.’

Andrew Katzen’s work in Professional Discipline comes in for special praise. He ‘has deep knowledge of the law and experience of the law in the professional discipline space’ and gives ‘extremely good’ legal advice. ‘He takes a case and puts his soul into it working really hard for his clients.’

Hickman & Rose’s Civil Liberties & Human Rights lawyers make up a ‘fantastic team’ with ‘exceptional expertise in matters concerning prison, probation, police and more’. Their work in Admin and Public law is ‘exceptional’. Daniel Machover is ‘one of the country’s leading civil liberties lawyers’ with ‘a brain the size of a planet’. Kate Maynard is ‘utterly amazing’, ‘really impressive’ and ‘deliver[s] exceptional outcomes for her clients.’ Stefano Ruis ‘goes the extra mile to secure the best outcome’. Ellie Cornish – newly ranked as an Associate to Watch – is ‘an absolutely fantastic lawyer – clever, astute and someone who thinks about things very strategically.’ Helen Stone – ranked ‘up and coming’ in this specialism – has ‘really good client skills and is extremely determined’.
