Jenny Wiltshire and Peter Csemiczky act for footballer Benjamin Mendy, acquitted at retrial

14 Jul 2023

Hickman & Rose partners Jenny Wiltshire and Peter Csemiczky represent Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy, who has been acquitted of rape and attempted rape following a retrial at Chester Crown Court.

Mr Mendy was unanimously acquitted of the two charges following a police investigation that started in 2020. He has now been unanimously acquitted of all ten charges he faced, having been found not guilty of seven charges of rape and one of sexual assault after a five month first trial which concluded earlier this year.

Mr Mendy was represented in court by barristers Eleanor Laws KC and Orla Daly, both of QEB Hollis Whiteman chambers.

Speaking after the acquittals were reported, Hickman & Rose’s Head of Serious and General Crime Jenny Wiltshire said:

“Benjamin Mendy would like to thank the members of the jury for focussing on the evidence in this trial, rather than on the rumour and innuendo that have followed this case from the outset.

This is the second time that Mr Mendy has been tried and found not guilty by a jury. He is delighted that both juries reached the correct verdicts.

It has been almost three years since the police started investigating this matter. Mr Mendy has tried to remain strong but the process has, inevitably had a serious impact on him.

He thanks everyone who has supported him throughout this ordeal and now asks for privacy so he can begin rebuilding his life.”
